A mystery . . .

After discovering a Time Travel Slaver Box in the asteroid belt of the Star System Federation Installation Nine is located in (Federation Installation Nine/Bastet Log 200807) and because of the value of such boxes and their contents, Star Fleet has asked that the Bastet on routine patrol scan for any non-natural object measuring a meter or less.
On it’s last patrol the U.S.S. Bastet under the command of Lieutenant Commander Gerve encountered such an object near the Kzinti Border, the “X” on the accompanying map marks the approximate location of contact.  Scans indicated there was no explosive, radiological, electronic or biological danger associated with the object so it was beamed aboard the U.S.S. Bastet and brought back to Federation Installation Nine.
The object appears to be a Sentient Being produced decoration or plaque for a wall or door.  It is made out of a material resembling wood and its overall shape is that of a Star Fleet Communicator.  Overlaying the basic design is the Paw Print Insignia of the Red Paw, incised deeply into the surface.  The entire object is covered in some sort of thin, protective, transparent coating.  Inconsistencies in the shape and finish of the object points to it being hand made/one of item as opposed to replicated or machine produced.  The accompanying photo shows Federation Installation Nine’s Chief of Security, Security Chief holding the object in question.
Knowing how sentimental some beings can be toward such objects, we would like to return it to the vessel, crew/survivors or relatives of crew to which the object originally belonged.
Security Chief and my CMO Doctor Selar scanned the artifact for any Biological Markers, ie  finger prints, hair or skin flakes adhering to it but found none.  This was not surprising since exposure to just a few hours of Cosmic Radiation would have most likely destroyed any such surface material.
Security-Chief has been put in charge of the artifact but there is a problem.  As you might know, the Kzinti are superstitious creatures with beliefs in ghosts and evil sprits.  The also believe an object or weapon can be possessed and or cursed by the ghost of its dead owner.  Because of this belief, I would like to get the artifact off the station as soon as possible.  Not that I would have a problem with Security-Chief but there is a large contingency of Kzinti Miners that work in the Dilithium Mines on two of the planets in the system and they use the station for health and recreational needs.  I do NOT like to upset them anymore than what they usually are around Ka’sskin (aliens) unless absolutely necessary!
